In a remote region of the Sierra Madres, where the states of Jalisco and Nayarit meet, an Indian tribe called the Huichol create some of the most beautiful, intricate crafts you will ever see.
Here a gallery has brought a member of the Huichol Indian tribe to Puerto Vallarta to demonstrate his craft. Using a needle, he embeds tiny glass beads into a wooden image that has been covered with bees wax (they charged us a dollar to take his picture). Our favorite Huichol gallery was just two blocks from the Malecon on Corona street (Arte Magico Huichol). This gallery also displayed a letter from the Smithsonian thanking them for a recent loan of Huichol pieces. The letter stated that the craftsmanship was the finest that they had ever seen!

Sergio Bustamante is an extremely popular Mexican artist. His surrelistic images frequently incorporate sun or moon faces. The Bustamante image above is a child on a turtle. |

The picture is not the greatest as it was taken through a gallery window. However, this is a good example of popular pieces by Sergio Bustamante |
